I’m excited to share with you a wonderful new series which started today over at Domestic Kingdom, Pointing Preschoolers to Jesus. My friend Gloria Furman has written the first piece.
I have five children between the ages of 1 to 18 and although I have older ones, I don’t believe that I have somehow “arrived” and “got it all together” regarding this motherhood thing. I love my kids dearly, but I also know I am a flawed and broken woman who needs Jesus just as much as they do. By the grace of God I have gotten over that stage in my life where I act and sound like I got this “godly” parenting thing down. The truth is, we all need a Savior. So I am very grateful for a website like Domestic Kingdom and the ladies over there. They put Jesus before parenting methods, hobby horses, and all sorts of secondary issues. That’s not to say they don’t give some practical advice, they do, but they never allow their stories or that advice to overshadow the work of Christ. I can say that I wish when I was a young mom that I had a place like Domestic Kingdom to go to, but that’s dwelling on the past and I can’t be doing that. Praise Jesus for his grace!
There was no internet for young moms when had small children. And when there was internet, and my kids were a little older, there was definitely no time for reading such good advice. I knew at the time my kids were younger that a lot of the resources out there were chalk full of moralism and no gospel, but there really wasn’t much out there. I was lucky if I got on the internet once a day when we finally had at at home, and my kids were 9,11, and 14. Kind of had to muddle through when they were little.
Luma, I’m humbled to be one of the moms taking part in the Pointing Preschoolers to Jesus series. It’s all Him. See you there!
That is wonderful, Kendra. I am so very pleased to hear that, you have taught me so much on this topic through your blog and through that homeschooling conference I came out for some years ago, and through personal conversations and emails. Preschoolers and Peace working with Domestic Kingdom to help mom’s stay Christ-centered, I love it!
